Praesagia Tristia (Latin for “Dire Premonitions”) is the debut album from Ottawa, Canada based black metal band Dismal Aura. Featuring members of Loviatar, Longhouse, and The Night Watch, the band eschews the genre’s Satanic tropes in favour of exploring issues of colonialism, environmental destruction, and state terror; and seek to carve out a space for queer and Indigenous artists in Canada’s metal landscape. The album layers elements of post-black, hardcore and grind atop a foundation of classic 2nd-wave black metal in the vein of Immortal and Enslaved, influenced by genre-bending artists like Liturgy, Iskra, and Dawn Ray’d.
